About the Journal
Affiliated with the Graduate Program in Philosophy at the Federal University of ABC (PPGFIL - UFABC), the philosophy journal Instauratio Magna is organized primarily by the student body and aims to provide a forum for the dissemination and discussion of academic research in philosophy conducted within Brazilian graduate programs. The journal reflects the characteristics of philosophical scholarship at the Federal University of ABC: it values rigorous analysis of texts within the context of the history of philosophy while remaining open to contemporary issues and interdisciplinary approaches.

About the journal’s name:
Francis Bacon titled his greatest philosophical work Instauratio Magna, which began publication in 1620. Now, 400 years later, in choosing this name, we do not intend to pay homage to Bacon or his philosophy. What interests us is evoking the spirit of unease stirred up by philosophical inquiry—that motivation which captivates and drives any human being seized by philosophical fervor, a fervor that was also evident in Bacon.
Just as Bacon sought to free science from idolatry in favor of collectively constructed knowledge, we, in turn, intend to move away from philosophical dogma and—to paraphrase Bacon—transform the anticipations of texts into an interpretation of the world. The philosophical text reveals its own world; this may be understandable, but we must not become fixated on it; rather, we must be guided by the world in which we live, drawing upon tradition. With this in mind, we cannot deny the need for constant subversion, taking into account what are now problems of philosophy but were previously unquestioned. This is the spirit of Instauratio Magna, which thus enters the debate surrounding the meaning of philosophical restoration, introducing into its core themes that were previously rejected. Francis Bacon, the author of the original Instauratio Magna, is at times a controversial figure in our times, given his philosophy, its interpretations, and its consequences. Considering that he neglected themes that now seem urgent to us, our intention is to dismantle your proposal from within, claiming a space that proves to be not only possible but necessary, while continuing to view the philosophical tradition as a source of questions and problems we must address. philosophical tradition as a source of questions and problems that we must address.

Focus and Scope:
The Instauratio Magna Philosophy Journal focuses on publishing unpublished articles, interviews, reviews, and translations related to the field of philosophy and its interdisciplinary interfaces. The journal’s target audience is the graduate student community engaged in research on philosophical and related topic
Composition of the Editorial Committee and the Editorial Board:
The Editorial Committee of Instauratio Magna is composed of graduate students in the Graduate Program in Philosophy at the Federal University of ABC, who join through spontaneous and voluntary expressions of interest. The Editorial Committee is advised by the current coordination team of the Graduate Program in Philosophy at UFABC, which serves as the journal’s General Editor.
The Editorial Board of Instauratio Magna serves as the core scientific support group, composed of professors holding doctoral degrees from various institutions of higher education who assist and support the work of the Editorial Committee, while also acting as an advisory body on ethical issues, divergent opinions, controversial cases involving conflicts of interest, or other matters related to ethical and editorial policies.
The work of both the Editorial Committee and the Editorial Board is based on UFABC’s Code of Ethics, as well as the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (Committee on Publication Ethics, https://publicationethics.org/).
Double-Blind Peer Review Process:
Submitted manuscripts will only be reviewed if they comply with the Publication Standards and Guidelines. If they meet these standards, the manuscripts are sent to two reviewers appointed by the Editorial Board, who must follow the guidelines established by the Editorial Board and Council, recording their reviews directly on the OJS/PKP platform. Reviewers may recommend acceptance, rejection, or revision of the manuscript with a resubmission. In the latter case, at the discretion of the Editorial Board, the manuscript may be returned to the same reviewer or forwarded to a new one. In any case where the two reviews of the submitted manuscript do not agree, a new review will be requested to resolve the discrepancy and support the final decision. The review process is, in all cases, confidential. It is important to note that the reviewers assigned to evaluate the submissions are experts in their fields and perform essential, highly skilled, and voluntary work; therefore, it is not possible to specify an exact deadline for issuing a decision on each submission.
PUBLICATION POLICIES:
Publication Format:
Instauratio Magna accepts manuscripts in all sections on a rolling basis and may also publish thematic dossiers and texts resulting from conferences, meetings, congresses, and other events. Starting in 2026, in addition to manuscript submission, the publication of articles will also be conducted on a rolling basis (Rolling Pass), with articles published individually and immediately after the approval, editing, and layout stages are completed. Issues will be finalized annually and made available exclusively in digital format.
Open Access Policy:
This journal follows the Open Access model, allowing free and immediate online access to its content. No fees are charged for the submission or publication of materials, in accordance with the principle that making academic and scientific knowledge freely available promotes greater democratization of knowledge. Author Fee Waiver Policy:

Policy on Ethical and Publication Best Practices:
Instauratio Magna bases its editorial practices on the UFABC Code of Ethics, the UFABC Code of Conduct, and the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics, https://publicationethics.org/) Guidelines on Best Practices for Journal Editors.
Assigned reviewers are asked to identify and comment on any ethical issues or misconduct related to the production and dissemination of the submitted material. In addition, manuscripts submitted for review may undergo an originality check using plagiarism detection software and artificial intelligence tools. The Editorial Board of Instauratio Magna conducts internal discussions to facilitate decision-making regarding these matters.
The Editorial Board reserves the right to suggest, at any stage of the publication process, adjustments to the submitted materials to bring them into line with Instauratio Magna’s editorial and graphic standards. In the event of any suggestions for changes to the conceptual scope of the submitted materials or any other questions, the Editorial Board will contact the authors via email.
