Technological innovation is an alternative for improving flexibility, adaptability and productivity in agri-food chains, mainly with the aim of reducing production costs and working time on farms. But the diffusion and adoption of new technologies on dairy farms, even in developed countries, is still limited. Factors such as lack of knowledge, perceived cost-benefit, age, unfamiliarity with technologies, beliefs and attitudes of producers are factors that hinder innovations and/or the effective adoption of technologies. Given the importance of innovation for the milk production chain, this study aims to analyze worldwide scientific production on technological innovation and technology adoption in the milk production chain. The results show that scientific production has grown, especially in the last 10 years, revealing the importance of research and extension on the subject of innovation as an alternative for improving the performance and competitiveness of the milk production chain.
