The Anthropocene is an era that started in the second half of the 20th century, marked by events such as global warming, pollution, the destruction of fields and forests, the acidification of the oceans, and the loss of biodiversity, which have caused severe socioeconomic problems to human beings, and obstacle to life on the planet. Measures to mitigate the effects of global warming are necessary to guarantee living conditions and protect from the damage generated in the biosphere. The answers found to these questions indicate the urgent need for actions geared to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. This article aims to point out the importance of electric vehicles for a low carbon economy. For that, a qualitative, exploratory and bibliographic research was used. In Brazil, due to the great pressure exerted on natural ecosystems, there is a need for policies to encourage the production and commercialization of electric vehicles, based on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from traditional vehicles as one of the ways to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
