Abstract

This article analyzes the foundations of Fredric Jameson’s hermeneutic literary criticism in The Political Unconscious (1981). It investigates how Marxist dialectics rewrites structuralism and psychoanalysis, defining History as an absent cause accessible only via textualization. The study details Jameson’s three interpretive horizons: the socially symbolic act, the ideologeme, and the ideology of form. It demonstrates how Jameson transcodes concepts from Lacan, Althusser, Greimas, Bloch, and Frye, preserving their partial validity by subsuming them into the Marxist horizon. It concludes that this operation reaffirms the utopian dimension of narrative as an imaginary resolution of historical contradictions.
