The present study aims to expose the main challenges for the implementation of remuneration models for teleodontology based on the economic and cultural reality of the country. The study seeks to promote the reflection of the sector regarding the remuneration of distance service providers, guaranteeing the quality of these services provided and not only based on cost reduction. A critical analysis of the academic literature on the subjects involving models of remuneration and teleodontology was carried out in the form of a narrative review, aiming to raise its challenges and possibilities for consolidation. The innovation lies in building a correlation between remuneration models and their suitability for business models involving teleodontology in Brazil. A study of the relationships and the impact of remuneration models linked to teleodontology identified that they are based on value. Cost effectiveness and quality of service are guaranteed with the use of the association of models based on FFS + capitation, capitation + salary and FFS + P4P. This research presents an important discussion on the benefits of implementing teleodontology in routine oral health services, in addition to understanding its effectiveness and efficiency in dental processes. It also contributes to understanding the economic impact based not only on cost reduction for the provision of services, but on understanding the appropriate remuneration models to support these activities.
